Welcome! Please feel free to browse our pages and learn more about the NESAF mission and activities. If you are a professional forester and not yet a member of SAF, please contact your local chapter and find out what membership can do for you!
Bylaws changes were recently approved to allow electronic voting through the National Society. See the About Us-Society Business page for voting results. This means new and earlier deadlines for fall elections! We will post the new dates on the About Us-Elections page soon.
Thanks to everyone for a successful 2008 Annual Meeting! Over 400 participants joined us in Saratoga Springs, including our colleagues and co-hosts from the New York State Society. The annual NESAF Integrity in Conservation Award went to the Katahdin Lake Coalition, a collaborative effort between the Maine Department of Conservation, the Trust for Public Land, and the Baxter State Park Authority. A full account of the history, mission and accomplishments of this group may be found in the April 2008 News Quarterly (link at left). Recognition was also given to Si Balch (Austin Cary Award), and Ron Lemin (James W. Tourney Award). Congratulations to all, and keep up the good work!
Also a very special thanks and best wishes to Brad Wyman, our former News Quarterly Editor, for his many years of dedication and hard work, and welcome to Scott and Maggie Machinist, who have agreed to take over editorial duties. Through Brad's efforts, the News Quarterly has maintained a level of quality and professionalism matched by few other SAF units. Brad's collaboration with the Forest Science and Technology editor to produce timely articles on current issues in regional forestry has also been invaluable. Thank you, Brad, for your long and dedicated service, and thank you Scott and Maggie, for stepping up, and we look forward to working with you!
Future Challenges for Foresters – Outcomes and Actions (pdf; 73 kb) is now available! The New England and the New York State Societies released the final report on July 30, 2007 for distribution to members and other interested parties. This document is now ready for another transformation – How can local units (chapters and divisions) begin thinking about the issues and ideas, and start a process of applying some of the included proactive action items? Look through this report, discuss it with your local officers and representatives, and let's keep the ball rolling!
